This page is for discussing which Wiki Spot wiki should be featured next, and to develop write-ups for that wiki.

Write-ups (On Deck)

[hahndorf]hahndorf is quite nice and ready for a writeup as another community oriented wiki. It's also Aussie, which shows the worldwide nature of WS.

[ic3cfu]ic3cfu and [liverpool]liverpool are approaching maturity.

Evan 'JabberWokky' Edwards writes: I'm thinking that the [inwiki]Imperium Nova Wiki might be a good idea. It's a radically different community, it has lots of content, is active, and has a very distinct layout demonstrating Wiki Spot themes. If nobody disagrees in the next couple days, I'll contact the community and see if they are interested. I'll suggest that if they want to spruce up their Front Page (maybe add an image and also upload a favicon), now would be the time. A starting point for a writeup, first sentence is right from their opening, links are picked pretty much at random, but the text is designed to deeplink into various places that show off the wiki:

[chico]Chico Wiki is a small but growing local wiki for the community of [chico]Chico, California, home to [chico]California State University, Chico and the [chico]Sierra Nevada Brewery. One of the very first wikis to take advantage of Wiki Spot's unique feature set, it has grown considerably with contributions from a few key users who also have been spreading the wiki word throughout the community. Despite its relative youth, the wiki covers many aspects of life in Chico, including [chico]outdoor activities, [chico]local events, [chico]restaurants, and the vibrant [chico]music scene. The wiki even features an expansive and entertaining list of local [chico]Urban Legends.

Previous Featured Wiki: [davis]Davis Wiki, with over 11,000 articles about Davis, California.

This looks good. Instead of a screenshot of the front page perhaps we should crop some picture that's on the wiki itself (*tries to find a good one*..).

2007-09-11 20:08:20   What's a good interest-based wiki (or, really, any non-metro wiki)? Are there any active ones yet? —PhilipNeustrom

2007-09-11 20:17:09   I'm just starting to edit the DNA Wiki seriously, but only a page or two at a time... it's nowhere hear where I want it to be when I publicize it, trying to shape it first, because I have a few specific goals in mind. I don't think it would be feature-able for at least 3 months. When the Madison Wiki gets some more editors and gets going over here, I'll add it to the list here. —KarlMogel

2007-09-13 21:12:12   If you guys are looking for a solid interest-based wiki to get started, I can turn to some online riding (motorcycles) communities and see if they would be interested in creating one. www.bayarearidersforum.com for one has shown interest in archiving information in wiki form for some time now as a solution to forum noobies asking the same questions over and over again. —MasumiWatanabe

A Wiki was posted with the following writeup:

The Offical Wiki of Gamezftw is now here! Yay! *Donuts and beer all around!*
Soon (hopefully), we will be putting reviews of games and specs about them very soon.
Feel free to add information, but do not be offended if it is removed or changed.
Thanks, enjoy this new service from the GamezFTW team!

There's no link to the wiki, which would be an absolute minimum. I notice that there is no wiki named gamezftw, and no wiki for GameszFTW listed in the Wiki Directory. That might be a better place to start listing a new wiki.

2008-04-05 23:50:28   Okay, it's definitely time to pick a new featured wiki. [sacramento]sacramento looks like the healthiest wiki outside of [davis]davis. [chico]chico and [santacruz]santacruz would be okay, but I'd like them to have a bit larger of a community. [nevada]nevada has a large community, but it's really really new and probably not ready yet. Any other suggestions from those of you who watch other wikis? —BrentLaabs

2008-11-20 07:23:16   Chico has been up for six months now. Can we move along? —DavidGrundler

2008-11-20 12:15:47   We might want to have a list of the former featured wikis on the front page in a terse format (something like the "Nearby Wikis" on [davis]Davis Wiki) so that people interested in Wiki Spot have mature examples to look at. We'll also probably start moving more through faster: Davis Wiki took quite awhile to replace, and Chico Wiki was up there for a long time, but now I see several wikis that started when Wiki Spot was opened all starting to approach that stable, active level of maturity. —JabberWokky

2009-10-07 19:24:00   As discussed on the front page discussion page... I've modified the featured wiki. Noted our one ain't really booming - yet - but it is at least a change! I reckon it gives a better impression to Wikispot. —NormanNitram

[ppol-mills]ppol-mills is WAY too young as I write this, but potentially a nice tiny, project wiki that has a good presentation. -jw

This is a Wiki Spot wiki. Wiki Spot is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that helps communities collaborate via wikis.
