How about changing "URL" to "Custom domain"? —PhilipNeustrom

2007-09-17 23:05:00   Listing a URL (regardless of the presence of a custom domain) makes it easier tell non-wiki users how to access the site. —Graham.Freeman

2007-09-17 23:11:42   Who are these "non-wiki users" you speak of? :p Okay, probably makes sense to put URLs everywhere, then. —PhilipNeustrom

2007-09-21 01:14:06   I think it'd be wise & useful to allow non-wikispot community wikis to be listed in the directory. That'll drive more traffic to the wiki spot directory, thus making it more likely that people will participate in Wiki Spot. To close ourselves off doesn't really achieve anything for anyone. —Graham.Freeman

2007-09-21 02:19:23   The point is to be a directory of wiki spot wikis — not a directory of every wiki. There are many such lists / directories of wikis out there that are well established. There is a value in providing a list of all wiki spot projects, because of technical and philosophical reasons, and that's what the wiki directory provides. Maybe we should rename the page, but I think within the context of the wiki spot hub, and given the explainatory text, that it is probably clear enough? —PhilipNeustrom

2007-09-21 09:46:49   My point is that the wiki directory can not only provide a directory of Wiki Spot-hosted community wikis, but also list other community wikis. Doing so will help to build and strengthen community among community wiki participants. Refusing to list other community wikis enforces Wiki Spot isolationism in a way, and I don't see how that benefits anyone or anything.

Wiki Spot isn't just about hosting wikis; it's mostly about building community wikis. Hosting is just a means, not an end. So let's not shut ourselves off from other folks working on complementary projects. —Graham.Freeman

2007-11-15 11:23:20   Anybody think there should be a global Wiki Directory, or should there be a directory per language (with multi-lingual ones listed multiple times on each of the relevant lists)? I'm thinking the list is to foster and attract the community of the wiki, which would likely help if a, say, French speaker could just find all the wikis with French entries. —JabberWokky

2009-02-13 22:04:10   I think the [wiki macro is not working. It is giving a duplicate name: "norwalk Norwalk." —
