Visiting shortname.wikispot.org now redirects to your wiki's proper domain name if you have a custom domain.

2007-8-21

You'll now see a little "messages!" alert in the upper right, next to your user name, when someone edits one of your user pages. Click on this alert to see the profiles of yours that have been modified! It looks like this:

Going to a user page that hasn't been created yet now provides information on the person: links to their other wiki profiles and a link to their user info. It looks like this:

The external link icon — formerly a globe — is now a little gray boxed-arrow. This change was made so that the icon would look better on a variety of different colored backgrounds.
Issue with the randomquote macro fixed (seen on the Restaurants page on the Davis Wiki)
Issue with image captions and leading spaces fixed.
Subpage links of the format ["../"], ["../../"], ["../Name"] are now fixed and working.
File replacement order in recent changes fixed up a bit.
You can type things into the search box that are the same length as the longest allowed pagename.
Minor change to comments macro (you won't notice). Redirects to page_name rather than page%20name.

Map tweaks: the info bubble now appears as soon as the map loads, the zoom level is increased by one level, and we are using smaller icons for the nearby locations (thanks Vladimir Loscutoff)
Comments can now be longer than 1000 characters.

2007-8-3

We're now sending the "404 Not Found" for pages that don't exist. The pages should appear the same to you in a web browser, but this helps people who are writing search engines, etc.
The Recent Changes page now shows the correct date when edits were made more than 7 days ago.
"Group changes by wiki" and other buttons on Interwiki Recent Changes now "stick" always.
[[LinksHere]] doesn't say that links it prints out are links :)
Bug with some tinylogo displays fixed. Namely, chico shows up properly now.
We don't bother redirecting google through our authentication process. As far as we know, the Googlebot can do javascript. It would be a good idea for us to not bother redirecting any spiders. Only spiders that execute javascript get redirected to begin with. How many of these are there? For now, we're just hardcoding google in.
Tons of behind the scenes code organization, which didn't change any functionality.

"Group by wiki" button added to Interwiki Recent Changes. It looks like this:
A "x more changes" link will now appear in recent changes when a page has had more than 15 edits that day. Click the link to see all the changes. It looks like this:
Recent Changes / Interwiki Recent Changes performance improved, but you won't notice.

2007-6-18

Some changes made that hopefully fix a weird issue that affected performance. The issue we were seeing would happen only once every several hours, would only start happening every couple days, and would only occur for a few seconds. It was pretty annoying, so hopefully it's fixed.
Account creation is now also done through https, so things should be more secure on that front, too.
Error with user info and comments on hidden wikis (when reverting pages) fixed.
Clicking the 'reset my password' link more than once now will give a more sane error message (or none at all, depending)
Wanted pages now shows pages alphabetically after "u."
Can't create a user w/o a name any longer (okay, so only one person could ever do this, but it's still a bug)
Bugs involving [[LinksHere]] should be fixed and links display should be sane again.
Interwiki Recent Changes won't show a constantly changing "last edited" timestamp.
Someone insane found a rename issue: page A (redirects to page B). Delete page b. rename page a to page b — get "did not change page content..cannot save!" Should be fixed.

2007-5-29

User logins are now made through an SSL connection, which means it's more secure to use Wiki Spot from public computers and hipster wifi-cafes. No more cleartext passwords over the wire!
An issue with "clear observed changes" on wikis was fixed.
Events board "posted by" links now point to the right location.
Links from a page to itself, with differing case, now don't show up as links (confusing, ignore).
Links to user's pages like ["Users/PhilipNEUSTROM"] now show up with proper case.
Two addresses that are the same on a page now doesn't cause an error message.
User info now doesn't show pages you can't read.
The "remember me" option should work again now.
Old school davis wiki links are working again now. Oops! (e.g. http://daviswiki.org/index.cgi/Joe_20Sherman)

2007-5-11

The [[paypal]] macro now shows which wiki you clicked on it through. This means if someone clicks the donate paypal button on the Davis Wiki and then donates we'll know they were probably most active on the Davis Wiki.

Ban stupid usernames like '..', '.', and '~'.
Make it so "http://awiki.wikispot.org/A_page_ending_in_slash/" redirects to the page without the slash.
Fixed issue with renaming pages and images.
Made quickedit work better when images are to the right and left.
Fixed issue with renaming a page with capitalization changes.
New admin tools: for revert/delete — "permanently remove.." option now will prompt you if you'd like to not show the change on Recent Changes. This feature was added after thinking about the motivation of certain types of serial vandals. The "permnanetly remove.." options already nuke their versions of the material, but you'd still see the admin's changes on recent changes, which might still give the person a slight bit of craved, desparate attention.
Fixed issue with links to users not showing up in the page's Link info area.
Fixed issue with automatic renaming of images with mislabeled extensions.
Fixed issue with links showing up in wanted pages twice with different capitalization.
Fixed issue with query strings and not-being-logged-in. Okay, this one is hard to explain :p
Removed "set bookmark" from the headers in Recent Changes (setting a bookmark based on a day isn't really useful when there are only 7 days). Clean UI is good.
Fixed issue where non-viewable pages would show up in the "Search all Wikis" search.
Fixed subtle timezone issue.
Disabled the [[PageSize]] macro because it's not very useful and uses up too much CPU. Will revisit a better approach later.
Fixed an issue with unicode support and cookies (thanks torontopedia :)
We don't show pages you can't read in recent changes anymore.
Fixed issue with renaming pages to non-ascii names.
Fixed and changed some more backend-type things. These would be really hard to explain, so they're being left out here.
Interwiki Recent Changes won't show anything if you're logged out now (why you'd be on that page if you weren't logged in is a whooole different question).
Some minor CSS changes to the default css.
Fixed weird image issue that popped up on the davis "Day of Action/Talk" page. Sorry about that one, Jessica.

2007-4-14 Comments are now made in an expandable text box, which means even more room for ranting :)

2007-4-13 Thumbnails made from uploaded images ought to look better now that we're doing some sharpening, and the zoom level on maps is a bit closer.
