Introduction
This is a page to track the restoration of an old grain store in Wexford Town, Ireland. This is a 6 story former grain store, located just off Paul Quay in Wexford

History

The building has a date plaque on the side of it. This clearly shows that it was built in 1858. The entire building is actually two buildings with the narrower building (nearer to the quay) being a lean-to type structure against the original building. this makes it a younger building. the evidence is that it is likely to be only a few years younger.
The building was used by the Stafford family of Wexford for many years as their main seed house. In this building the segregation, sorting, storing, cleaning and screening of the highest quality Barley and wheat for replanting was carried out. Many of the beams have hand written words like "Echo" and "Quern". These were some of the famous varieties of wheat used by farmers in ounty Wexford and beyond over the years. In 1998, Staffords closed down their agricultural buisiness and the seed house became idle.

Present Works
At the moment the building is undergoing a major refurbishment project. the scope of works includes
- the repair of windows and replacement of broken glass in the recently installed windows
- the addition of two fire stairs at either end
- the addition of a lift to one end
- the removal and replacement withslates of some sheets in roof
- the repair to all existing floors.
- the refurbishment of slates to the Western gable. (Nearest to the Main St)
- the installation of drainage, sewers, telephone, Electricity to all floors.
- the addition of fire protection to all floors.

Future Use
- When this building is complete it use will be as follows
Floors 1 and 2 will be used for a bistro/restaurant. given the location and teh old world nature of the building it is expected that this will be a unique and charming location for parties, dinners and just meeting up.
Floor 3 will be an office
Floor 4 and 5 will be suitable for storage of papers ad ther office related items
Floor 6 will again be an office. As this is at the highest level it should give rise to nice imaginative thoughts or in IT parlance- some blue sky thinking.
