[lolicon]Lolicon and Love is a wiki devoted to the official-non-official group For lolicon anime fans. Lolicon(ロリコン), romanized as Rorikon, is an alteration of the Japanese portmanteau lolicom of the word(s)/phrase "Lolita complex" and also refers to a genre/theme of anime. In Japan the term is sometimes used along the lines of English's usage of "pedophile" (psychiatric or common usage). Outside of Japan, the term is most often used in the otaku community to refer to a genre/theme of anime that depicts female children or childlike females as sex objects. The phrase originated from Vladimir Nabokov's book Lolita. The book is based on a storyline where in which a middle-aged man becomes obsessed with a girl named Lolita (she's twelve) while being involved with her mother, which later leads to sexual involvement.

Otaku's definition

Despite common misperception, media does not have to be pornographic to qualify as lolicon media. It can be hentai, or merely ecchi, or even moe. This term mainly is used in the english-speaking otaku community. Someone may have classified it as "anime's most controversial subject ever".

USDL

Lolicon International (Formerly United States Department of Lolicon) defines it as: "genre/theme of anime in which underaged female anime characters or childlike characters are sexually depicted." LI refers to the novel Lolita as "The Pedophile's Hot to Guide to Molesting."

Controversy

Most(if not all) critics claim that the lolicon genre contributes to actual sexual abuse of children. Its supporters, free speech advocates, numerous scientists and others claim that there is no evidence for this. They claim rather that there is evidence to the contrary. Many countries have attempted to ban lolicon, and have done so sucessfully. These include the commonwealths of the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia, as well as the United States. Various laws address this including laws against child pornography, or laws against obscenity.
