Mrs. Alvarez's Wiki Pathfinder for Discoveries and Awakenings
11th Grade IB English
Discoveries and Awakenings is the first of six units you will study this year. The first work we will study is Leycester Coltman's The Real Fidel Castro. Fidel Castro is a controversial figure in Cuba and around the world. Since you have already read about him, you have formed opinions about Castro, and you have significant prior knowledge; therefore, you can use that knowledge to further delve into the country that Castro helped create.
Per Mrs. Burchfield, you will select two handouts that most interest you. Those handouts are titled "Contemporary Leaders;" "Someone to Lean On;" "The Man Knows His History;" "A Pictures Is Worth a Thousand Words," and "The Family." Every one will have to complete "The Literature Tells The Story."
The handouts you select will determine the sources that you need. Using the title of the source and your notes, select the most appropriate link. Do not forget that you have additional resources: your partner, your teacher, and your media specialist!
I enjoyed this book, and Castro's allusions and figurative language show that he is a master of psychology, and maybe, just maybe, he is a master of manipulation.
