me and my pup.JPG

I moved to Davis in 1991 from Asheville NC 4 months after visiting for the first time. I fell in love with the dog and little kid friendly nature of this town as well as the Arboretum, Blue Mango, Davis Food Co-op and Boogies books. I had intended to only stay a few years.... but soon was intrenched in Davis and life changes sometimes keep you in a place longer than you once imagined.

My kiddos, Alex and Shealyn attended the wonderful Cezar Chez spanish emersion school from K-6th grade giving them both a fantastic start to discovering the world around them and the ever so important gift of speaking another language.

The things that keep me busy in this town... well, drinking coffee and chatting at Delta Venus and catching some music there, feeding my kids and their pals with the amazingly tasty menu. There are very blurred lines at this point between friends and staffers my living room and their deck... great place to bring your pups and read the paper for an hour or three.

I have taught classes at the Experimental College, sold art at the Davis Art Center and the Whole Earth Festival, worked in and with local nonprofits and am a life coach and behavioral companion dog trainer, Laughing Dogs. For the record yes, dogs change their behavior faster than we humans but their is still hope for us! I LOVE being a parenting coach as our kids are our teachers, I adore working with people over coming the ever misunderstood chemical imbalances and illnesses of the mind, they are proving you can have the life you want regardless of the hand you have been dealt. I work with many stressed UCD students in transition as well as folks just wanting a happier life with less struggle.

Now dogs, anyone who has worked with me over the past 18 years will tell you a dog is like 10 years of therapy rolled into one! Laughing Dog is MY therapy as I get to work with some of the most amazing animal loving, dedicated people I will ever meet. I always tell people to marry someone who loves you like your dog. Dust off your humor and get to teaching with play. Davis, being the very intellectual town that it is, has wonderful dog owners who "discuss" with their dogs how unreasonable they are being and if they could just please stop barking and digging and acting so unrefined in public with the jumping and licking life would be grand. Dogs will make you confront your fears, find clear boundaries, be silly in public places and deal with people as they attract interactions with their sweetness, grouchiness, boldness and sometime embarrassing public behaviors. I LOVE DOGS and the lessons they bring us in life as well as the friendships they foster. We should all learn to be as loyal, driven, playful, brave and compassionate as our dog friends. This is where I also want to thank the YCSPCA for your volunteerism and dedication to unwanted animals and tireless fight to bringing to light the need to spay/neuter and make a life long commitment to pets.

What the fine town of Davis needs in my opinion would be:
1. An ocean and some hills, and a forest (just a thought)
2. Truly affordable housing options
3. A low cost no cost spay/neuter clinic
4. A kicking art supply store
5. More live music

Places that I LOVE in Davis
1. the UCD craft center
2. Alphabet moon
3. Delta Venue
4. The farmers market
5. George's Garage
6. My neighborhood, even though I am not sure if I am now old east Davis or central Davis?

2010-08-05 12:40:21   Hey, Cayce... I noticed your edit comment about the huge image, so I restored it and then made it a thumbnail (you can edit and see how). If you want, you can delete the image again, but I figured you might like it in a smaller form. Welcome to Wiki Spot! —Evan 'JabberWokky' Edwards
