Historically known as the “Jewel of north country”, Ogdensburg is the only City in all of St. Lawrence County. Ogdensburg has suffered great decline in the last half century, but is enthusiastically looking forward to embrace the ideas of the sustainable city in hope of regeneration. The waterfront Brownfield Opportunity Area is a critical step in defining the future of Ogdensburg as a vital waterfront City of high quality neighborhoods, viable industry and accessible riverfronts.
The City of Ogdensburg has undertaken numerous projects and planning activities including the Local Waterfront Revitalization (LWRP) process to spur revitalization. The Ogdensburg waterfront Brownfield Opportunity Area (referred to as “Getting to Green: A Revitalization Strategy for the City of Ogdensburg’s BOA”) is the City’s culminating effort, combining planning, economic development, and marketing to rehabilitate its former industrial and manufacturing core into a sustainable, mixed-use, urban waterfront with high quality neighborhoods, diverse job opportunities, and accessible recreation alternatives. The BOA provides a roadmap for redevelopment within this City on the River.
