Liila, Satya and maree met to talk over the ideas that have formed around future australia.
The history is that Liila and Satya have been talking over the possibility of a something like a think tank. Tom loved the idea when he & Liila discussed it again in March 09.
But what does this mean?
So the discussion centred around looking at a network of consultants, facilitators, researchers, whatever with the common interest.
Thinktank occurs/exists where this group is asked to come up with a solution, do some research etc into a particular problem, challenge or opportunity. Of course this work would be taken on from the point of view of sustainability (?) progressive future (??) - or at least be informed by that value set.
for business structure the options discussed were:
- for-profit incorporated by australian corporations act
- nfp incorporated in tasmania under the associations incorporation act
- nfp incorporated as a comapny limited by guarantee under the australian corporations act
- legal consortium of independent provides/operators
we had a basic and buzzy discussion about possible pros & cons of each. obviously one of the critical discussions for the core membership. but we were pretty taken with the notion of a consortium as flexible, nimble & responsive maintaining the independence of members to pursue whatever else is going on, rather than incorporating another entity that then creates its own needs and demands to be fed...
we thought the critical factors were identifying the right people, building it slowly, getting a few wins, quietly testing, ironing out rough spots & so on
well without having worked out how to load up an image i can't draw the conversation which might explain a little more...
