I believe that all classes should be under twenty students, and I strongly disagree that large lecture classes promote any sort of learning. One teacher for twenty students is also small enough to encourage discussion. Learning comes from hearing, writing, and speaking, and a class that integrates all three would provide painless and easy learning. Most students feel more comfortable around a smaller group of their peers, and speaking comes easier to comfortable students. Visually, my ideal classroom is at the top of a building and has large windows on all sides. I like having lots of natural light in a classroom, and I know that most students would prefer natural light over artificial. The classroom would be high because views inspire creativity, which would especially aid in writing classes. Light and beauty are two important creative stimulants. As far as desk placement, my ideal classroom has a circle of tables in the center so that all students, as well as the instructor, can face each other. Easy eye contact makes speaking more intimate and makes one's opinions better known. The aspect of this prompt that I feel mostly strongly about is the cost of higher learning. I believe that all schools, from kindergarten to graduate school, should be free to students and paid for nationally (from taxes). I think it is ridiculous that it costs $80,000 just to be able to get a good job when all that is really required is a good brain. College should not be available only to the rich, and learning needs to be available to everyone regardless of their situation. Financial aid helps to even out the playing field, but entrance to a college based on scholarship alone is ideal. Money should have nothing to do with higher education. ‚
